September 2026
Hi I am DS. I am 67 years old. I have a knee that isn’t working properly - osteoarthritis. I saw my primary physician a few years ago. She told me I was too young. Dr. George sent me to see Dr. Miller, who prescribed the knee
brace. I got a knee brace paid for by Aids to Daily Living, and they gave me a brochure on going to Lithuania to have knee surgery.
I retired at 65 and started seeing a specialist, as now, I was old enough. Since then, I have had X-rays and an MRI. I went to see a specialist at Mount Royal University, Dr. Cristurean, and he gave me a cortisone shot; it made
no difference at all.
He then gave me a hypochlorous acid that was supposed to replace synovial fluid in my knee. That worked for a few days to a week, and then it started hurting again.
Recently, I got a nerve block done for my knee, and I am currently recovering from that. So it’s just wait and see.
I have been told that I would have to wait for two years (it’s already been over a year since I started this process - I got a letter from the Orthopedic Health Corporation telling me they would be in touch when they had an opening
for me to have surgery in Alberta. I am still waiting to have this situation resolved. I use canes to walk and have a walker for getting around. Dual healthcare will not make this situation any better.
DS
